Intertek Allentown’s specialized team performs gas uptake, permeation and immersion testing - sorption analysis - to analyze a range of samples to meet your characterization needs
Intertek Allentown offers customizable sorption analysis to determine the characterization of samples such as polymers, nanoparticles, adsorbents and catalysts. The resulting comprehensive data includes:
- Porosity
- Skeletal density
- Surface area
- Pore volume
- Pore size distribution
- Chemisorption
- Vapor uptake
- Permeation
- Diffusion
- Stability coefficients
In the sorption lab, materials are exposed to gases, vapors, and liquids to measure how much uptake of the adsorbate there is on the adsorbent and how quickly equilibration occurs.
Gas/Vapor Testing
The weight increase or decrease of solid materials can be measured when exposed to gases and vapors. Sorption analysis of this data yields properties such as:
- Porosity
- Total pore volume
- Catalyst activity
- Metal dispersion
- Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET)
Diffusion information can also be obtained by measuring the rate of weight change.
Liquid/Immersion Testing
Specific and unique issues such a determination of porosity and optimization of reactivation conditions for a material can be addressed by the dedicated scientific team in Allentown. They can establish the temperature rise with exposure to a gas stream using liquid and immersion testing, along with determining weight update, solvent resistance, and diffusion & equilibrium coefficients. Liquid and immersion testing is particularly useful for the evaluation of chemical composition.
