Marvin Cohn Receives ASME Honor Award for Piping Industry Contributions
The American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) Code for Pressure Piping, B31.1 Power Piping Committee, on the recommendation of the Officers and by their authority, awarded Marvin Cohn, P. E., P.Eng., FASME, the Rank of Master of Power Piping.
Mr. Cohn, Intertek’s Piping Asset Integrity Management Director, earned the honor by excellence in the analysis of high energy piping (HEP) systems. He has assisted in writing safety code guidelines and evaluating the integrity of high energy piping systems subject to creep damage (deformation caused by voids or cavities within the microstructure of the piping).
Mr. Cohn has 32 years of service with the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31.1 Power Piping Committees. As the core team member for creep and failure analysis of alloys he has earned well-deserved respect and high regard across members of committees.
Intertek’s HEP team helps maintain the safe and reliable operation of power generation plant HEP systems by developing and implementing asset integrity management programs that minimize piping inspection costs, operational risks and safety concerns while maximizing asset life and output. HEP systems are affected by various factors such as exposure to high temperatures for a long period of time, fatigue, and corrosion. Load cycles (adjusting power output up or down to meet energy demands) may also add stress to HEP as the system is pushed beyond its original design limits.
Intertek’s Aware for Piping Module APM solutions help meet the constant challenges and complexities of managing the life of plant assets.
