Dr. John Heil is a member of Intertek Assuris' Chemicals Group. John offers clients assistance with new substances, pesticides, fertilizers, and regulatory review in diverse jurisdictions. John specializes in organisms and biochemicals.
John’s experience is in providing regulatory and scientific advice concerning the Canadian New Substance Notification Regulations (Organisms) [NSNR(O)], the Canadian Fertilizers Act, the U.S. Microbial Commercial Activity Notices under the Toxic Substances Control Act, Bio-fertilizer state regulations, and bio-pesticide regulations under the U.S. Federal, Insecticide Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). John has successfully guided several large regulatory submissions to completion at his time with the Chemicals Group.
John’s scientific expertise allows him to interpret the scientific literature concerning microorganism identity, health and environmental hazards, and organism genetics. This allows John to synthesize publicly available data with data owned by his clients. John collaborates with clients on composing scientific rationales for risk assessment, allowing him to develop cost effective and sound regulatory strategies.
John holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Waterloo. For his Ph.D. research he studied the molecular genetics of bacteria and constructed bacterial chromosome engineering systems using bacteriophage recombination systems. John completed a post-doctoral fellowship studying plant growth promoting microorganisms and later developed a microbial fertilizer product and successfully completed its registration under the Canadian Fertilizers Act.
