Nicholas Milutinovic, Ph.D., M.Sc., Scientific Consultant 1, Safety & Regulatory Affairs, Food & Nutrition
Dr. Nicholas Milutinovic is a cross-disciplinary scientist specializing in creating nature-inspired technologies. Trained as a synthetic chemist, Dr. Milutinovic has expertise in hazardous and extremely air-sensitive chemistry, including nitrogen mustards, sulfurous gases, nickel tetracarbonyl, carbenes, and polyamines. He also has an extensive background in biomaterials, biotechnology, natural products isolation and synthesis, advanced spectroscopic analysis, and antibacterial polysaccharide vaccines.
Dr. Milutinovic’s scientific work has been recognized by notable research awards and has led to several pioneering, patent-granted outcomes. His most notable accomplishments include:
- Isolation, synthetic optimization, and preclinical testing of an anti-cancer vitamin
- Discovery of an organic high-energy storage biopolymer material
- A facile synthesis and structural characterization of the dithioformate anion, [HCS₂]⁻, one of the last small, stable molecules to remain unexamined
- Discovery of a reversible solid-state hydrogen activation process
- Invention of a water remediation technology for the destruction of halogenated hydrocarbons
- Discovery and synthetic optimization of a hydrogen-deuterium isotope exchange reagent
Dr. Milutinovic’s research accomplishments are complemented by his extensive experiences in all stages of scientific and technological development, from design and discovery to intellectual property development and product commercialization.
