Lead-Based Paint Inspections & Consulting Services
Lead-based paint and lead-contaminated dust in older buildings are the most common sources of lead poisoning. Lead-based paints were banned for residential use in the US in 1978 but had already experienced wide-spread use by that time. As these painted surfaces are now well aged, it’s likely they are experiencing excessive wear, peeling, and cracking, spreading lead paint chips and dust into living environments.
Prolonged lead exposure, over months or years, builds up lead levels in your blood over time, so even small amounts of exposure can cause serious health concerns, including for adults: high blood pressure, kidney damage, infertility, seizures and even death. Children younger than 6 years old are especially vulnerable to lead’s health hazards and can have their mental and physical development severely impacted.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 29 million housing units have lead-based paint hazards including deteriorated paint and lead contaminated house dust. About 2.6 million of these are home to young children.
