ASTM E2264: Standard Practice for Determining the Effects of Temperature Cycling on Fenestration Products
Standard: ASTM E2264 – Standard Practice for Determining the Effects of Temperature Cycling on Fenestration Products
Scope: This test is used on both residential and commercial fenestration products.
Applicable Products: Windows, Doors, Curtain Walls, Cladding Systems, Composite materials where expansion, contraction and fastener pull out needs evaluated
Test Procedure: This test utilizes an insulated thermal conditioning chamber with center partitioning wall for sample installation and temperature controls on both sides. The test specifier can identify the exposure profile and duration for evaluation but the standard outlines a default exposure.
The one compartment is maintained at ambient temperature of 73oF and the other provides an exterior exposure level chosen by the test specifier, which is cycled over a 12 hour period.
Level 1: Cycling from 49oC (120oF) to -30oC (-22oF)
Level 2: Cycling from 66oC (150oF) to -30oC (-22oF)
Level 3: Cycling from 82oC (180oF) to -30oC (-22oF)
The exterior exposure hot temperature can be supplied using Infrared Lights or Convective Hot Air. The environmental conditioning is repeated for 14 cycles.
End Result: The specimen is evaluated for its performance in the areas of interest of the test specifier. Examples include Air infiltration (ASTM E283) and Water Penetration (ASTM E331), however, any characteristic can be evaluated. The characteristic is measured and/or observed before the exposure and after the completion of the cycling program. Any physical product change or deficiency will be reported.
Special Notes: This method does not correlate to a specific exposure duration or product life cycle.
