Standard: ASTM E8 – Standard Test Methods for Tension Testing of Metallic Materials
Scope: These test methods cover the tension testing of metallic materials in any form at room temperature, specifically, the methods of determination of yield strength, yield point elongation, tensile strength, elongation, and reduction of area.
Applicable Products: Metal Panels, Sandwich Panels, Metal Siding, Soffits, Roofing Systems
Test Procedure: The sample panel is cut into dog bones. Those dog bones are then mounted in a tensile testing machine and pulled until failure.
End Result: Yield strength, Yield point elongation, Tensile Strength, and Elongation will be reported. A comprehensive test report will be issued with this information
