Quality inspection services for manufacturers of hazardous locations equipment
Inspections of Hazardous Locations and equipment help minimize risk to property, product and person, ensuring they meet customer standards and industry and government regulations.
Intertek provides inspection services for manufacturers of Ex Certified equipment, where these are required by the certification scheme. Such an audit usually involves assessment of the quality management system (typically based on ISO 9001) and monitoring of areas such as materials sourcing, manufacturing and test / inspection of the completed product.
Intertek offers inspections to support the following schemes:
- ATEX Quality Assurance Notification (QAN)
- IECEx Quality Assessment Reports (QAR)
- UKEX Quality Assurance Notification (UK QAN)
For ATEX, IECEx, and UKEK the assessment is based on EN ISO/IEC 80079-34, which includes most ISO 9001 requirements, along with additional specific requirements encompassing areas such as control of certification documentation, product design, purchasing, traceability etc.
A quality audit is required for all IECEx Certificates of Conformity and for ATEX/UKEX EU/UK-Type Examination Certificates (i.e. compulsory certification for Category 1 / M1 or Category 2 / M2 Electrical Equipment, or Category 1 Non-electrical Equipment). It is not required for Unit Verification Certificates, or for Type Examination Certificates (i.e. voluntary certification for Category 3 Equipment, or Category 2 Non-electrical Equipment). A quality audit can be conducted with or without an existing ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS), however audit durations/frequencies will be different for manufacturers with an uncertified or unaccredited QMS.
The additional requirement of technical file storage by a Notified Body (ATEX) or UK Approved Body (UKEX) applies to Category 2 Non-electrical Equipment unless it is the subject of Unit Verification by a Notified Body (ATEX) or UK Approved Body (UKEX).
Other global and regional inspection schemes can also be audited.
