Memorandum of Co-Operation with Sino-Singapore venture to advance green building in China
Intertek, a leading global provider of quality and safety solutions, has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Administrative Committee of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city ("Eco-City") to support 'green building' in China.
The Eco-City is cooperative project between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Singapore to construct a new environmentally-friendly city near Tianjin, China. The construction and development of the city will focus on 'green' factors such as air and water quality, natural ecology, biodiversity, energy conservation, and waste management. When complete, the Eco-City will be capable of housing 350,000 residents across a 31 km² area that will also be a thriving economic and cultural centre.
Intertek will support the development of the Eco-City by establishing testing, inspection, and certification protocol that meet high standards of sustainability, energy-efficiency, and environmentally-friendly building quality.
"Over the next ten to fifteen years, the Eco-City will develop more than 20,000,000 square meters in green construction," stated the Eco-City Administrative Committee. "The architectural design, verification, consultation, and construction processes have attracted a lot of attention, both domestic and foreign. The Eco-city's conformance with green building evaluation criteria will be a powerful safeguard for the city’s development."
Calin Moldovean, President of Intertek's Systems Certification business, said "Intertek is delighted to partner with the Eco-City's Administrative Committee to help ensure that a truly 'green' city is built from the ground up. From infrastructure consulting to building product testing, the breadth of our experience and services will be of strong support to the Eco-City's management and delivery of this dynamic project."
Intertek helps companies and governments around the world achieve 'green' standards in their products, processes, operations, construction, and infrastructure. This includes environmental management systems certification, energy-efficiency testing of products and materials, renewable energy certification and infrastructure services, and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System review services. Intertek also brings a deep knowledge of the Chinese market to the Eco-City, with 5,000 employees and more than fifty offices and laboratories established in China since 1989.
