Intertek and the Business Environmental Performance Initiative launch the Supply Chain Chemical Management Module

Lowell, MA - Intertek, a leading provider of quality assurance to industries worldwide, in partnership with the Business Environmental Performance Initiative (BEPI), announced the launch of the Supply Chain Chemical Management Module (SCCM), a new set of tools developed to support factories in managing chemicals as part of the overall effort to create more sustainable global supply chains for the textile and footwear industry.
The Supply Chain Chemical Module is part of the BEPI framework and provides a comprehensive set of tools to help factories improve their environmental management performance in order to reduce supply chain environmental risk for BEPI member companies. This initiative aims to help organisations around the world by providing the tools necessary to mitigate the risks associated with chemical management.
Intertek’s proven protocols and previously developed methodologies in chemical management and supply chain sustainability, was influential in being selected by BEPI as a collaborator in developing this program. Intertek has proven global auditing expertise helping organisations around the world to achieve compliance to common requirements and provide assurance that sustainability efforts are being met.
Due to recent concerns around the hazardous nature of certain chemicals, the complexity of chemical management has become an issue for textile and footwear manufacturers. The SCCM program is the first step in realising change in the way chemicals are used and disposed of for many organisations.
