Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, proudly announces its expansion in Africa with the award of a new contract by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce to deliver the country’s Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) programme from 1st of August 2025.

This contract reinforces Intertek’s commitment to supporting and enhancing worldwide trade through its comprehensive Total Quality Assurance solutions. With Intertek’s well-established global presence, the company will assist exporters by verifying the conformity of all regulated products in the respective exporting countries across a range of sectors. This ensures that products comply with applicable Zimbabwean technical regulations and quality standards, assuring Zimbabwean citizens of the quality and reliability of imported goods.

The appointment for this contract highlights Intertek’s increasing momentum in strengthening its position as the go-to provider for governments and businesses requiring reliable, efficient, and technically sound compliance solutions, empowering them to trade with assurance.

Awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), this contract will involve Intertek verifying the conformity of regulated products—including general goods, used vehicles, and spare parts—entering Zimbabwe. It ensures that all products meet international and national standards followed in the country prior to shipment.

As the government standardisation authority, MOIC is responsible for regulating Zimbabwe’s industrial and commercial sectors. It plays a key role in promoting investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship, while ensuring fair competition and creating a level playing field for all market participants.

As part of this programme, Intertek will carry out the conformity assessment process, which includes documentary review, testing, inspection, and certification of products exported to Zimbabwe through four distinct routes:

  • Route A: Open to all traders and exporters with any type of product, this route does not require prior registration but mandates inspection and testing for compliance with Zimbabwean standards.
  • Route B: This route allows a fast-track certification process for exporters who have demonstrated consistent compliance with the CBCA programme. Product registration is recommended for exporters who frequently ship goods to Zimbabwe.
  • Route C: Manufacturers with a compliant and appropriate quality management system can benefit from this fast-track certification route.
  • Consolidated Goods: This route offers certification for consolidated cargo.

In addition to these four routes, the certification process will also cover used vehicles and spare parts, ensuring that these products meet the regulatory standards required by the Zimbabwean authorities. This will ensure smooth and efficient engagement with exporters worldwide.
