Intertek delivers comprehensive technical assistance and on-board client representative services for Red Electrica’s interconnection project

Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce the successful delivery of technical assistance and on-board client representative services to Spanish transmission system operator Red Electrica in support of its proposed Spanish Peninsula-Balearic Islands subsea power cable interconnection in the Mediterranean Sea.

The scope of work encompassed critical technical and operational support during the tender, engineering, and execution phases of geophysical, UXO, and geotechnical surveys. Intertek provided in-depth technical expertise to define work scopes and refine technical tender documents for various offshore surveys. This included reviewing and commenting on desktop studies, technical specifications, and critical engineering studies such as metocean and hydro-sedimentary studies, UXO risk assessments, and Cable Burial Risk Assessments. Intertek also monitored study execution and ensured the quality and accuracy of deliverables.

Intertek’s technical support was pivotal during the preparation and execution of geophysical surveys. On-board client representatives ensured strict adherence to procedures, verified equipment calibration, monitored data quality, and enforced health and safety compliance. The team supported effective decision-making through detailed reporting and stakeholder coordination. Additionally, Intertek extended its expertise to geotechnical surveys, offering on-board client representative services that included overseeing compliance with technical specifications, supervising sample storage and testing and validating equipment performance. This included robust onshore support to define sampling locations, approve laboratory test plans, and prepare detailed progress and synthesis reports.

The Intertek team also provided comprehensive onshore support, enabling seamless decision-making during marine campaigns. The team delivered key reports, including campaign preparation, progress updates, and a final synthesis report highlighting contractor performance and lessons learned.
