U.S. – Vermont Amends Children’s Products Reporting Rule

Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed Bill (S 55) into law on June 19, 2019, which amends Act 188 – the 2014 law that authorized the state’s Chemicals of High Concern in Children’s Products Rule. To implement these amendments the Vermont Department of Health has published the Chemicals of High Concern (CHCC) in Children’s Products Rule to go into effect immediately.
Following are the key amendments:
- Starting from August 31, 2020, reporting of CHCC-containing children’s products shall be done annually instead of biennially.
- Codify that the description of product or product component in the report shall include Global Product Classification (GPC) product brick description. The brand name, product model and the Universal Product Code (UPC) (if the product has such a code) shall also be disclosed.
In addition, 20 substances, listed below, have been added to the list of Chemicals of High Concern to Children:

The next reporting deadline is August 31, 2020, which will apply to the children’s products offered for sale between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2020.
