Indonesia approves new regulation on melamine eating and drinking utensil
On October 18, 2024, the Ministry of Industry has published Regulation 60 of 2024 for implementing Indonesian National Standards (SNI) applicable to melamine eating and drinking utensils.
This regulation requires products to comply with standard SNI 7322:2008 Melamine - Eating and drinking equipment.
Products must undergo conformity assessments under the Type 5 certification system. Certification verification will be handled by an accredited product certification body (LSPro), and conformity testing will be conducted by accredited laboratories, either domestic or international. The findings from these assessments will be documented in the SNI Certification.
All products are required to display both the SNI mark and an electronic mark. The use of the SNI mark must be approved through the Certificate for the Use of the SNI Mark (SNI SPPT) process.
After the regulations come into effect, Regulation No 77/M-IND/PER/9/2015 concerning the Mandatory Implementation of Indonesian National Standards for Melamine - Eating and Drinking Equipment shall be repealed.
These regulations will take effect on 18 April 2025. Products manufactured or imported prior to this date must achieve compliance by 18 April 2026.
