Impact, Overview, Fees and Action Required

Impact Statement: A review of all Listing Reports is necessary to determine which products comply with new/revised requirements and which products will require re-evaluation. NOTE: Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes(Specific details of new/revised requirements are found in table below)Deviation added to clause 10.2 – limitation on rated power input. Specific details of new/revised requirements are found in table below.

  • Addition of marking of allowable amperage of field installed conductors
  • Addition of marking where a transfer switch is included.
  • Addition of finger probe requirements

Schedule: So that shipping of products with Listing Marks will not be interrupted, an approximate schedule has been established to ensure Listing Reports are found compliant by Effective Date:

  • December 28, 2015 = 8 Month Report Review – Intertek will review all Reports. Update if compliance is verified or issue Findings Letter/Quote for any re-evaluations needed
  • February 29, 2016 = 6 Month Quote Cut-off – Quotes returned for necessary re-evaluations

6InfoMarking
6.18 New clause added;

The allowable amperage of field installed conductors (the incoming and outgoing power cables) shall be marked permanently on the equipment if the cable rating is different than 75 C, in a location readily visible prior to wiring, to indicate the permitted temperature rating of each conductor, with the following or equivalent wording:

FIELD INSTALLED CONDUCTORS UP TO ____ C AMPERAGE RATING ARE PERMITTED.
6.24 New clause added;

Where a transfer switch is included with the panelboard as per Clause 9.2.3.2, the panelboard shall be marked with the following or equivalent:

WARNING – MORE THAN ONE LIVE CIRCUIT. DISCONNECT ALL SOURCES OF SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING.

8.2.1.3 New clause added;

To determine compliance to Clause 8.2.1.1 (b), the size of any openings, or their location, or both, shall prevent the articulated finger probe, illustrated in Figure 7, from contacting uninsulated live parts. Enamelled wire shall be considered an uninsulated live part.
8.2.1.4 New clause added;

The finger probe specified in Clause 8.2.1.3 shall be applied in any possible configuration, and after insertion through the opening, the configuration shall be changed if necessary.
8.2.1.5 New clause added;

The finger probe specified in Clause 8.2.1.3 shall be used only as a measuring instrument to judge the accessibility provided by the opening. It shall not be used as an instrument to judge the strength of a material. The test finger shall be applied with a force not greater than 11 N.
8.2.5 Neutral assemblies
8.2.5.1

Additions to existing requirements are underlined below.

The main neutral assembly shall be located in the service box and shall comply with the applicable neutral assembly requirements of CSA C22.2 No. 0.19 except that the specified bonding conductor connection may be omitted and a nonferrous or corrosion resistant steel screw provided for bonding the enclosure to the neutral bar (convertible neutral). The screw shall be not less than

a) No. 10 for equipment rated at 100 A or less;
b) 6.3 mm for equipment rated over 100 A and up to and including 225 A; and
c) 7.9 mm diameter for equipment rated over 225 A and up to and including 400 A.

9.2.3.2

Additions to existing requirements are underlined below.

Auxiliary equipment in the same enclosure or compartment with a panelboard interior shall be limited to

a) contactors that control panelboard circuits;

b) remote control relays for lighting circuits;

c) pilot lights and pushbutton switches connected to the panelboard circuits;

d) separately mounted disconnection means and overcurrent protection that shall only be provided for mains or subfeed circuits; in panelboards restricted to 42 single-pole branch circuits, a mains disconnecting means and overcurrent protection may be added above or below the panelboard interior, but a subfeed shall not be added if the sum of the branch and subfeed poles exceeds 42; and

e) transfer equipment complying with one of the following:

  1. constructed in compliance with the Canadian standard for automatic transfer switches, C22.2 No. 178.1;
